Police investigate suspicious death near downtown
Homicide detectives are investigating after a man’s body was found north of downtown early Saturday morning.
Police were called to the scene around 2:15 a.m after someone spotted the body on the road at 103 Street and 107 Avenue.
The man was dead when they arrived.
"I was told by detectives [that] the man was found with trauma to his body," said police spokeswoman Patricia Thenu.
"Apparently there was quite a bit of blood at the scene."
Monica Seitl, who lives in the area, wasn’t surprised to see the police tape stretched across the road when she went out for an early morning walk.
"Figured something happened here again in this area, which isn’t uncommon," she said.
"Police are always called into this area for one reason or another."
Seitl says despite recent changes in the area, she still worries sometimes about living in the neighbourhood.
"Yes, I am. But I watch myself … it is a concern, the police are trying to clean it up, but it is a constant concern."
No further details on the victim have been released.
