Police investigate north-end sex assault
A 13-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in north Edmonton Tuesday night after she was lured to an apartment building by two men, police said Wednesday.
The victim met the pair at the Belvedere LRT station around midnight and accompanied them to the nearby building.
Once the girl was inside the building, she was taken to the laundry room and was sexually assaulted at knife-point, police said.
The two men fled after the attack.
The victim then walked back to the LRT station and notified transit security.
"I don't believe there was any long term physical injuries as a result," said police spokesman Jeff Wuite.
"Currently, the girl is with her family. Our investigators, of course, will be in contact with them and, more than likely, interviewing the girl again in the days to come."
Police are searching for two men in their late teens or early 20s in connection with the crime.
The police child protection unit is in charge of the investigation.
