Edmonton police have arrested a suspect in a series of robberies after they put out a media release asking for the public's help to find him. In fact, officers already had the man in custody.

Police say the 31-year-old man assulted a person taking cash out of an ATM at Whyte Avenue and 108th Street early Saturday morning. They also suspect he may have been involved in a similar robbery at a bank on 118th Avenue last Wednesday.

Police put out a release with the man's photo Saturday evening.

But in a release sent Sunday afternoon, investigators confirmed the man was already in custody when the press release asking for the public's help to find the suspect was sent out.

The man was one of two people arrested when officers stopped a suspected stolen vehicle near 50th Street and 98th Avenue.

The suspect now faces 14 criminal charges, including aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm, possession of a dangerous weapon and breach of probation.
