Pedestrian killed in north Edmonton
A young man was killed just before midnight Sunday as he was crossing 118th Avenue at 42nd Street in northeast Edmonton.
The man in his early 20s was hit by a white Honda Civic and died at the scene, said police.
Police had 118th Avenue closed off until the morning rush hour began Monday.
Charges are pending against the 24-year-old female driver, police said.
"The traffic section is investigating reports that the vehicle was racing," said police spokesman Chad Orydzuk. "However it's still early in the investigation and there's no confirmation that speed was a factor yet."
The man is Edmonton’s 10th traffic fatality for 2011.
