Paul McCartney will perform at Rexall Place in Edmonton on Nov. 28, it was announced on Friday.
The concert was posted on the Ticketmaster website prior to the 11 a.m. news conference at Rexall Place, which whipped up speculation on social media sites when it was announced on Thursday.
An enthusiastic Mayor Stephen Mandel thanked Northlands for bringing McCartney to Edmonton for the very first time.
"It's going to be a great event for Alberta and for Edmonton," Mandel said. "I am unbelievably excited."
Edmonton is one of two Canadian dates on McCartney's tour. The former Beatle is also playing in Vancouver on Nov. 25.
Tickets for the Edmonton show go on sale on Sept. 14th at 10 a.m. MT.
McCartney played before more than 200,000 fans in Quebec City in July 2008 as part of the province's 400th anniversary celebrations.
