Two men are facing numerous charges in connection with a bizarre abduction in Edmonton.

According to police, the incident began when the two victims met with two other men in a parking lot in southwest Edmonton to buy a used SUV. But instead of proceeding with the deal, police said, the two accused handcuffed the potential buyers and drove them downtown while demanding money.

After several hours, police said, the abducted men escaped — still handcuffed together — and managed to flag down an officer near 107 Avenue and 98 Street at about 11:45 p.m. Friday.

The accused were arrested not far from the scene, one in a car allegedly stolen from one of the victims, the other while trying to escape by taxi.

They are now facing charges including kidnapping, extortion and firearms. Immigration officials have also become involved, police said.
