Edmonton police have taken one man into custody after stabbing near 115th Avenue and 141st Street around 3:15 p.m. Sunday.

Police say they were heard reports that two people became involved in an argument that escalated to a big fight.

“At some point in the course of this fight, a knife was pulled by one of the gentlemen and the victim was stabbed a number of times,” said Staff Sgt. Todd Laycock.

The victim was rushed to hospital with unknown injuries.

Police have blocked off an area in front of one house on the street, just north of the Telus World of Science, while they investigate.

“This is a peaceful neighbourhood,” said Laycock. “This seems to be a totally random event, uncharacteristic of what we generally see in this part of Edmonton.”

Police say it is currently unknown whether the two people involved in the fight knew each other.
