Neighbours are reacting with shock after an Edmonton woman was killed in a freak accident at her home in north Edmonton on Saturday.

The mother-of-four was standing outside her house, which was having outdoor renovation work done, when a piece of a concrete mixer bounced off the roof of the home and struck her.

The woman was taken to hospital immediately, but doctors were unable to save her.

Next door neighbour Aisha Haymour said she was shocked to hear her neighbour had died.

“They stabilized her and took her and she looked conscious when she left, so I didn't think it was anything serious until later in the evening when I found out.

Rolling Mix Cement had been contracted to provide the concrete at the woman's home.

They refused to speak on camera, but they did say the truck’s driver had inspected the truck that day.

The incident remains under investigation.
