Murder charge laid in Wetaskiwin McDonalds stabbing
A 48-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in a fatal stabbing at a Wetaskiwin McDonalds Tuesday night.
Jonathon Greene, 33, was stabbed while sitting inside the restaurant around 7 p.m. Other patrons tried to save him but he was later pronounced dead in hospital.
The accused, who is from the Samson Cree First Nation, fled the scene.
RCMP say that staff and witnesses helped them identify the accused who was found in a nearby alleyway with the help of an RCMP police dog.
Police believe the stabbing was not gang-related.
The accused has been remanded into custody. He is scheduled to appear in court in Wetaskiwin on May 29.
