Motorhead, one of the biggest heavy metal bands in the world, is giving Josh Semotiuk two guitars up.

Singer Lemmy Kilmister endorsed Semotiuk on the band's Facebook site after seeing a picture of the candidate wearing a Motorhead T-shirt at a mayoral forum.

Semotiuk — who is running his campaign out of his own pocket — says the star power is welcome.

"I think it's pretty awesome," he said. "There's nothing better than someone you like giving you a pat on the back. That's cool."

Semotiuk's no-nonsense approach at mayoral forums has made him a crowd favourite, but one of the biggest challenges is to get his rock-and-roll contingency out to vote on Oct. 21.

"One third of people showed up to vote last time," he said. "That means two-thirds of the people didn't even care, didn't show up, they had better things to do."
