The bus left Edmonton just before 8 p.m. Tuesday.

At around 5 a.m. the driver swerved to avoid the moose, causing the bus to leave the highway and ending upright in a slough about 20 metres from the road, said a Greyhound spokesperson.

One passenger's arm was broken, though the driver and all 18 passengers were taken to hospital as a precaution.

The moose was killed and its calf has not been seen since, said area resident Sue Davies.

A relief bus arrived to take passengers on to Kamloops.
