A 24-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder after Edmonton police found the body of a missing female escort buried in a yard.
Chantel Brittnay Robertson, 20, was last seen early Saturday morning when she was dropped off at a client's residence at 98 Street and 80 Avenue.
A search warrant executed Monday led police to her body, which was exhumed that evening from the yard of the bungalow at which she was last seen.
Matthew Todd Barrett, 24, has been charged with first-degree murder and offering an indignity to a body.
Police began investigating Robertson as a missing person Sunday morning after she did not show up for her scheduled pick-up or for work that day, which was highly unusual behaviour. Her cellphone was also turned off.
Investigators are awaiting the results of an autopsy.
Robertson would be Edmonton's 13th homicide of the year.
