The Crown is going straight to trial in the murders of St. Albert residents Lyle and Marie McCann.
The Crown cancelled a six-week preliminary hearing for Travis Vader, who faces two counts of first degree murder, and will now proceed to trial by direct indictment.
The Crown determined that going straight to trial is most consistent with the public interest, said spokesperson Michelle Davio.
Vader is due back in court Aug. 2 to set a trial date.
The McCanns disappeared shortly after leaving on vacation for British Columbia three years ago.
Their bodies have never been found, though their motorhome was discovered torched near Edson, Alta.
