A 54-year old man from Stony Plain, west of Edmonton was killed Tuesday morning when the pickup truck he was driving collided with an ambulance on Highway 28, near Smoky Lake.

Brian Clark was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 50-year old male passenger in the truck was transported to the Smoky Lake Health Centre with undetermined injuries, according to an RCMP release.

The female driver of the ambulance was treated and released from the health centre. A patient being transported in the ambulance was admitted to the health centre.

A female ambulance attendant who was tending to the patient in the back of the ambulance at the time of the collision was air lifted to Edmonton by STARS air ambulance, police said.

Although it was raining heavily across the province on Tuesday, RCMP in Smoky Lake said the weather does not appear to have been a factor in the crash.
