Two Hills RCMP have taken a man into custody after the evacuation of a motel in the small central Alberta town Wednesday afternoon.

RCMP say a man fired several shots from a firearm outside of the Junction Inn at around 6:00 a.m.

"When I opened the restaurant I walked outside and I saw a man walking out the door and he had a gun," said Agatha Unger who was opening the Burger Palace across from the motel.

"He shot ... a few shots, like maybe ... three, four shots or so," she said. "He kicked the wall. He acted 'different.'"

The man then holed up inside the hotel for several hours, firing three more shots sometime in the afternoon.

About eight customers were gathered at the back of a restaurant, because police wouldn't let anyone in or out of the area. They were allowed to leave after police entered the hotel room and handcuffed a man at around 2:30 p.m.

RCMP say the man surrendered peacefully and that no one was injured. No other people were found inside the room.

Two Hills is 140 kilometres northeast of Edmonton.
