Man given 2 years in prison for fatal hit and run
A Duffield man was sentenced to two years in prison Thursday for a hit and run that killed a cyclist on Stony Plain Road in September 2007.
Casey Meads, 23, pleaded guilty in January to leaving the scene of an accident and obstruction of a police officer in the crash that killed William Korol, 38.
Meads received two years for leaving the scene of the accident and three months for the obstruction charge. Both sentences will be served concurrently. Meads was also given a three-year driving ban that will start once he leaves prison.
Korol was killed when Mead's truck hit him as he was pedalling his mountain bike on Stony Plain Road just west of Anthony Henday Drive in the early hours of Sept. 15, 2007. He died at the scene.
