Man found dead in motel identified by police
The man found dead in a west end motel last weekend is believed to have been involved in the sex trade, according to Edmonton police.
Jon Syah Ribut, 35, was originally from Indonesia and had been living in Canada for the last 14 months on a two-year work visa.
Staff found his body in a room at the Aladdin Motel at 111th Avenue and 154th Street at 11:30 Sunday morning. The medical examiner determined that he died from blunt force trauma.
Police are hoping someone can fill them in on Ribut’s background, who he knew, and where he was in the last two weeks of his life. He may have also been known under a different name
They are also asking anyone who may have checked out of the hotel on Sunday morning to talk to them as they may have been missed by investigators going door to door.
“The smallest of details may help move this investigation forward," said Staff Sgt. David Christoffle.
Christoffle says Ribut was alone when he checked in to the motel around 2 p.m. Saturday. He declined to say whether Ribut was working out of his room.
