A 60-year-old man died Monday morning after his truck collided with a train in south Edmonton.
The collision occurred at a marked crossing near 71st Street and Girard Road, just after 8 a.m.
The man was travelling south when his truck was struck on the driver's side by the westbound train, Insp. Brian Nowlan said.
Investigators aren't sure what caused the crash.
"Perhaps sun was a factor, we don’t know," Nowlan said.
Warning lights were flashing at the time. Nowlan said that two witnesses told police that the man appeared to look up at the last minute.
In a news release, police said there was nothing to indicate alcohol, excessive speed or road conditions contributed to the crash.
