A man is dead after the small plane that he was piloting crashed in northern Alberta Saturday.
"We’re just basically trying to determine what occurred," said RCMP Cpl. Phil Veirs.
The single engine plane was flying between La Crete and High Level when it flew into cloud cover and heavy fog, which reduced visibility.
The plane’s emergency beacon activated, which alerted aviation officials in Ontario, who called local RCMP.
"It was poor visibility for us to find the crash. A white plane on a white background made it very difficult to locate it," Viers said.
The plane later was found, having crashed a few kilometres northeast of the La Crete airport.
The identity of the pilot, 52, has not been released.
RCMP and Transport Canada are investigating the crash.
