A man attempting to walk across Highway 2 south of Edmonton near Leduc was hit by a car and killed Monday morning.
RCMP say they received a call around 6 a.m. about the collision in the northbound lane of the highway near exit 519.
“On scene we determined the individual was deceased and it was a pedestrian crossing the highway and struck by one vehicle,” said Cst. Julian Celms with the RCMP.
The man, who RCMP say appears to be in his late forties or early fifties, has not yet been identified. He had no identification on him.
The driver of the car that hit the man was taken to hospital but has been released. Police say charges will not be laid.
Several lanes were closed on the highway for hours Monday morning, but have now been reopened.
"We wish to thank motorists for their patience as we conducted our investigation to determine what happened." said Celms.
Police say they are now trying to figure out exactly what happened.
