A 47-year-old Edmonton man faces several charges after allegedly attempting to pay for sex with a nine-year-old girl.

Edmonton police began investigating after a woman reported that a male friend offered to pay her if she let him have sex with her daughter.

Police arrested Francesco (Frank) Pagliuso on Oct. 8, 2010. He was charged with one count of procuring a person under 18 for prostitution and released on a promise to appear in court at a later date.

While investigating further, police identified two 16-year-olds, a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old who said they had been offered money and gifts in exchange for sex with the man.

Police re-arrested Pagliuso  Nov. 2, 2010, and he was charged with three more counts of procuring a person under 18 for prostitution, one count of procuring a person over 18 for prostitution.

He also faces one count of criminal harassment.

"This is the first case that we have investigated with such a young girl," vice section Staff Sgt. John Fiorilli said in a news release.

Pagliuso is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 17, 2010.
