Police say a man has been charged after he was caught driving a stolen front-end loader while intoxicated, which he then drove into a minivan, injuring a mother and child.
EPS said the 45-year-old man collided with the minivan just after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday near 109th Street and 107th Avenue.
After the collision, the man drove to a nearby parking lot where he took off on foot, at which point a bystander managed to detain him until police arrived.
Upon inspection, police realized the front-end loader involved had been reported stolen from a Nisku company on Oct. 14.
The driver has now been charged with failure to stop at the scene of an accident, assault with intent to resist arrest, impaired operation of motor vehicle, theft of a motor vehicle and driving while suspended.
The mother and child who were riding in the minivan when it was hit were both taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
