A man in custody after he allegedly set fire to a downtown St. Paul home with people inside.

Firefighters were called to a blaze Saturday afternoon that engulfed a garage, car port and trailer. Emergency crews entered the building and removed one person before the fire spread inside.

No one was injured but two people were sent to hospital as a precaution. They were later released.

"There were a number of people in the house who witnessed an incident take place, there was an altercation to eventually led us to our suspect," said Const. John Spaans.

A witness told police that a man was seen fleeing the fire. RCMP later took a man, 34, into custody.

No charges have yet been laid. The extent of the fire damage is not known.
