The Whitemud Drive Amusement Park will have to move now that a city council committee has recommended the land be expropriated for the new southeast LRT.
The park, which has go-carts, mini-golf and batting cages, sits on about 2.2 hectares of land beside 75th Street and Whitemud Drive. It sits right in the path of where the city wants to build the southeast line.
Owner Sukhy Aulakh would be happy if the city helped them relocate to a location with the same kind of drive-by location.
"If we can find something similar, (a) similar parcel of land with the similar type of exposure then definitely we would consider relocating to that location," she said.
Aulakh also wants the city to let the park stay for one more summer so they can inform their regular customers about the move. Mayor Stephen Mandel said there are things the city can do to make the process less difficult for the owners.
"I think we maybe need to find another place where Whitemud park could go," Mandel said.
"I like to hit the baseball too and people like to ride in the go carts so maybe there's some alternative we can find to recreate that. We do need the land for the LRT."
Construction of this section of the LRT through this area is scheduled to start in the spring of 2014.
The recommendation to expropriate the property must be approved by city council before it goes ahead.
