The Tour of Alberta officially got underway in Edmonton's Churchll Square earlier tonight.

Cycling fans are thrilled to see world-class athletes racing through downtown, but commuters faced road closures that went into effect during the afternoon rush hour.

Nearly 120 professional cyclists will be competing in the six-day Tour of Alberta race.

The CBC’s Mark Connolly (@MarkConnollyCBC), Paul Moore (@PaulMooreCBC) and Kristina Partsinevelos (@KristinaParts) are live-tweeting the race and potential commuting headaches.
