A failure to meet safety requirements has led Leduc County to deny permission to the Mad Hatter Music Festival which is scheduled to start on Thursday.

The county claims organizers failed to provide information about emergency plans, health permits, additional security and first aid personnel. Attempts to reach a solution were not successful.

"We have very serious concerns about the safety and security of would-be festival attendees which is why permission for the festival was denied" said D’Anne O’Keefe, manager of current Planning with Leduc County in a news release.

The festival is scheduled to run from Thursday until Monday. The county says organizers refused to move the date so safety plans could be put in place.
