Landline phone service returns in northeast Alberta

According to Alberta Emergency Alert, phones stopped working in areas around Vermilion, Vegreville, Smoky Lake County and St. Paul County, including St. Paul and Bonnyville on Wednesday night. Service has now been restored.

Telephone service has resumed after parts of northeastern Alberta lost landline service on Wednesday night. 

According to Alberta Emergency Alert, phones stopped working in areas around Vegreville, Smoky Lake County and St. Paul County, including St. Paul and Bonnyville.

While service was out, residents in the area were being told to use their cell phones to dial 911 if in need.

As of 9:15 p.m.. landline service was restored in Irma, Lloydminster, Wainwright and the County of Vermilion River. All service had been restored by Thursday morning.
