Eleven teams gathered at Enterprise Square on Saturday, spending the day building creations completely of cans and non-perishable food items that will eventually be donated to the Edmonton, St. Albert and Strathcona food banks.

On Sunday the judges had spoken, selecting the winners in the 7th annual CANstruction competition.

Stantec Consulting’s took the prize for “best structural ingenuity” with their can sculpture of the High Level Bridge.

The “best meal” category was swept by AECOM’s sculpture, while “best use of labels” went to EPCOR’s creation.

An honourable mention also went to Manasc Isaac Architects group for their Grumpy Cat creation, entitled “A hungry cat is a Grumpy Cat.”

The Manasc Isaac team faced adversity in the competition when their structure toppled over, forcing them to start over late in the day. However, the team recovered and eventually completed their sculpture of the internet sensation.

Voting for the “people’s choice” category begins on Monday and will close on May 21.

The can creations will be on display at Enterprise Square until May 21.
