An RCMP officer run down by a suspect fleeing in a one-ton truck during a standoff this week remains in hospital in stable condition.
The officer, whose name is not being released, was badly hurt after he was run down at a rural home near Tofield, Alta., east of Edmonton, Tuesday.
He is expected to remain in hospital for a considerable time yet, RCMP said in a news release Friday.
Earlier this week police said the officer was recovering and in good spirits after four hours of surgery for several broken bones and internal injuries.
A second officer was grazed by a bullet during the ensuing shoot out.
The suspect, who was shot a number of times during the gun battle, won't be charged until he is deemed medically fit to appear in court.
