An autopsy has ruled the death of an infant in the city’s west end yesterday was non-criminal.

Paramedics responded to an apartment building near 103rd Avenue and 156th Street Wednesday afternoon after receiving a report of an infant in distress.

Neighbours watched as paramedics loaded what appeared to be a very young child into their ambulance before driving away.

The infant was then transported to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Building manager Shannon Beaverbones said the child and its mother were guests of one of her tenants.

Several other tenants  — all visibly shaken by the incident —  reported hearing a baby crying in the apartment throughout the day.

"I heard a baby crying, but that was pretty much it. I thought nothing of it until I heard that the baby was gone," said resident Faline Beaverbone.
