Three young adults have died in a house fire on the Samson Cree First Nation at Hobbema.

Firefighters were called to the home just after 4:15 a.m. Sunday and found the house engulfed in flames.

When firefighters entered the home they discovered the bodies of one man and two women.

Family and band leaders have identified the deceased as Dan Larocque, Chelsea Swampy and Lateshia Omeasoo. All three were in their 20s.

"Today is a very tragic, tragic day," said band councillor Kirk Buffalo. "Our community is facing another sadness ... the loss of three young individuals that have perished."

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, though police do not believe the fire was criminal in nature.
