Border officials seized more than a kilogram of heroin at the Edmonton International Airport.

On Nov. 8, Canada Border Services Agency officers discovered 1.075 kilograms of heroin in a courier shipment bound for Edmonton.

Police said the shipment constitutes 10,000 individual doses valued at $430,000.

The shipment came from the United Kingdom and was declared as clothes and shoes. Officers examined the large, soft-sided suitcase half-full of clothing. They discovered a false compartment that contained four clear plastic packages of suspected heroin.

Police searched a home in southeast Edmonton and arrested Yadwindar Singh, 27. He is charged with importing a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Singh is in custody and was scheduled to appear Friday in Edmonton Provincial Court.
