An Edmonton man pleaded guilty on Tuesday to hit and run in a crash that killed B.C. teenager Travis Hurlbert last summer.

Derek O’Connor, 27, also pleaded guilty to disqualified driving. He will return to court next week to set a sentencing date.

Hurlbert, 18, was driving a Volkswagen Passat last July when he was struck by a Dodge Avenger speeding through the intersection of Manning Drive and 167th Avenue.

Hurlbert was from Castlegar, B.C. and had just moved to Edmonton for work.

O'Connor has four prior convictions, including impaired driving and driving while disqualified.
