The death of a young man in Gibbons, Alta., was ruled a homicide after an autopsy was conducted Thursday morning.

Cameron James Petherbridge, 23, was found dead in a house just after 2 p.m. Wednesday.

The cause of death will not be released for investigative reasons, police say.

The RCMP Edmonton major crime unit, the Morinville detachment and the general investigation section are conducting an investigation.

There were two other people in the house at the time.

"I can tell you they were known to police and at this time they are believed also to be victims," said RCMP Sgt. Tim Taniguchi.

The death came as a shock to people who knew Petherbridge.

"I know everyone's just flabbergasted about what's happened," said Justin Zaharko who grew up in Gibbons with Petherbridge and his brother.

"We've had friends lost in the past by accidents, car accidents, but nothing to this extent. This is extreme."

Gibbons is 40 kilometres northeast of Edmonton.
