Gateway Boulevard crash kills one, injures 2nd

Edmonton police are investigating a fatal crash that has shut down a portion of Gateway Boulevard.
Police are looking for the driver of this Jeep after he walked away from hospital. The Nova Scotia man is wanted on charges including impaired driving causing death. His passenger died in the crash on Gateway Boulevard early Wednesday morning. (CBC)

Edmonton police are investigating a fatal crash that killed a 28-year-old man and shut down a portion of Gateway Boulevard early Wednesday morning. 

The crash happened around 2 a.m. when the driver lost control of his Jeep Wrangler. After knocking down a light standard and striking billboards and trees, the vehicle eventually slammed into the side of a building near 61st Avenue.

The male passenger sustained life-threatening injuries and died shortly after he was taken to hospital. The driver received serious injuries but is in stable condition. 

Police say speed and alcohol may have been involved.
