Gas leak prompts evacuations in downtown Sylvan Lake
Police hunt driver who fled scene after crash that severed natural gas line
Several homes and businesses in downtown Sylvan Lake were evacuated Saturday morning after a truck crashed into a Telus building, severing a natural gas line.
Officials say the evacuation order has been lifted after ATCO crews capped the leak and vented the building.
Police are looking for the driver of the truck, who fled the scene after hitting the building at about 5 a.m.
Earlier Saturday, RCMP Cpl. James Alemekinders said the evacuation zone extended to a four-block radius around the building in the downtown core due to concerns "the building the truck crashed into is now full of natural gas from the gas leak, so there's the obvious concern of explosion should something ignite those gases."
No injuries have been reported.
