Edmonton police say they’ve busted up an attempt to set up a new gang in the city — one that would specialize in trafficking cocaine.

After a five-month investigation, police charged five people with conspiracy to traffic cocaine and committing an indictable offence for a criminal organization.

Two of the charged are prisoners at the Edmonton Maximum Security Institution, two are women living in Edmonton, and one is a man from Ontario.

"These arrests in all likelihood prevented a potentially dangerous gang from establishing in our city, thereby enhancing public safety," said Inspector Greg Preston in a news release.

Facing drug and gang charges are Mark Williams, 34; Jeremy Paul Krasny, 22; Susan Marie Krikorian, 22, of Edmonton; Randi Dawn Steinborn, 27, also of Edmonton; and Anthony Chanda, 33, of Ontario.
