Fire at Churchill LRT disrupts trains
A small fire at Churchill Station created a power outage and interruptions to service on Edmonton's LRT Monday afternoon.
Crews were working on an electrical panel when the fire broke out around 3:50 p.m.
"There was a flash and a small fire broke out," said Ron Gabruck, director of operational support with Edmonton Transit.
"It sent some smoke into the Churchill Station and caused us to go into our emergency protocols."
No one was hurt. Firefighters extinguished the fire and ventilated the area.
The power outage affected an area from 97th to 102 Streets and 101 to 104th Avenues.
The station was opened and trains resumed normal operations by 4:15 p.m. , the city said in a news release. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
