The FIFA women’s Under-20 Women's World Cup kicked off Tuesday, with games in Toronto and right here in Edmonton.
Germany defeated the USA squad at Commonwealth Stadium 2-0. China faced off against Brazil at 8 p.m. MT.
Seven games will be hosted in Edmonton, including the quarter finals.
While the tournament will see some of the world’s best female players come to Edmonton, tickets have not been selling as well as organizers had hoped.
Trisa Zimmerman, the Edmonton Venue General Manager for the tournament, hopes sales will improve.
“I think that it is fair to say that it is traditional in a tournament format that we will see an increase in ticket sales as the tournament goes on and as people get more aware and want to get involved in the excitement,” said Zimmerman.
The next game in Edmonton will be Friday, when Germany faces off against China and USA plays Brazil.
