Faulty muffler stop nets 9 mm handgun
Three men arrested in Edmonton traffic stop
A traffic stop for a faulty muffler turned into a weapons bust after Edmonton police found a loaded 9 mm handgun with its serial number filed off.
Police were pulling over vehicles at 111th Avenue and 92nd Street last Tuesday afternoon when officers noticed a Pontiac Sunfire with a muffler barely attached.
Officers spoke to the three men inside, discovering two had breached previous court orders, police said.
As the men left the car, officers saw the handgun partially hidden under the front passenger seat.
The men aged 23, 19 and 31 are charged with numerous firearms offences including possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm and will appear in court on Mar. 21.
Police are checking to see if the weapon is connected to any other police file.
