Extreme weather closes northern Alberta highways
Snow and freezing rain have forced RCMP to close several routes in northern Alberta Thursday night.
Highway 63 northbound to Fort McMurray has been closed, where it meets Highway 55 near Lac La Biche because of road conditions. Southbound traffic is also affected. Some vehicles have been rerouted onto Highway 881, which itself is under a travel advisory.
RCMP say the road will be closed until at least 8 a.m. Friday.
Boyle RCMP have also closed Highway 831 in both directions until further notice at the junction with Highway 28, due to a collision and weather conditions.
