A 20-year-old Edmonton woman died this morning after the car she was a passenger in tried to avoid a line up of vehicles waiting for a train to pass in Sherwood Park this morning.

The car was T-boned by a pick up while making a U-turn on 17th Street just south of Petroleum Way in Sherwood Park at about 6:50 a.m.

A long line of traffic was stopped in the southbound lanes waiting for a train to clear the tracks on 17th Street.

The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The 25 year old man driving the car and the 21 year old male driver of the truck, both from Edmonton, sustained minor injuries.

Police do not believe drugs, alcohol, speed or road conditions were factors in the collision.

Traffic was affected in the area for approximately 3 hours due to the investigation.
