Edmonton teacher charged with groping girls in a pool
Edmonton Public Schools confirms that a man facing sex charges for inappropriately touching two pre-teen girls at a pool is a teacher.
Christopher Herodek, 48, is charged with two counts each of sexual assault and sexual interference.
The incidents are alleged to have occurred on Dec. 22 and Dec. 23 as two girls swam by a man in a “lazy river” pool at Terwillegar Recreation Centre in southwest Edmonton.
Police spokesman Scott Pattison says a lifeguard alerted police to what was going on.
"Kudos to them, they were very observant, very watchful," he said. "They kept an eye on the suspect at that time, happened to notice some peculiar activity going on under the water with goggles on and followed them intently and made the complaint."
School board spokesperson Jane Stirling confirms that Herodek taught with the district.
“As soon as we found out about the charges yesterday, he was immediately suspended with pay,” she said.
Police say the charges do not involve any of Herodek’s students.
