Edmonton police are investigating after a shooting in a downtown alley on Saturday morning left a man wounded.

Police say a man was shot in a remote, secluded alley near 106 Street and 105 Avenue at about 11 a.m. MT. The victim ran to a nearby fire hall, where police were called.

The victim, who has not been identified, remains in hospital with non-life threatening injuries. It is not clear how many times he was shot.

Police say the shooting does not appear to be random and say the general public has no reason to be concerned. The victim was known to police, but it is not clear whether there are any links to drugs or organized crime.

Police have not identified any suspects, but investigators are checking the area for surveillance videos and canvassing the neighbourhood for witnesses.

An alley north of 105 Avenue was taped off for much of the day as investigators searched for evidence.
