Edmonton's 17th homicide victim of the year was killed by a single gunshot wound, police said Thursday.

The man, identified as Andrew Livingstone O'Brien, 42, was found lying in front of an apartment building at 107 Avenue and 108 Street early Tuesday morning. He was rushed to hospital but died shortly after.

An autopsy on the victim was performed Wednesday.

The shooting is believed to be drug-related, said police spokesperson Patrycia Chalupczynska, but there are no suspects at this time.

A can of beer and some blood-soaked towels could be seen on the ground near where the shooting occurred.

One witness told CBC News they saw a "skinny man" approach a car that was stopped on the street and get shot in the chest.
