Edmonton police shoot at vehicle during chase

A 46-year-old man has been charged after police fired at a speeding truck Tuesday night.

A 46-year-old man faces a number of charges after police fired at a speeding truck Tuesday night.

Police spotted the red GMC pick-up driving erratically on the Yellowhead Trail west of 97th Street at about 10 p.m.

Officers gave chase with the help of the police helicopter.

The vehicle stopped in an industrial area near 129 Avenue and 144 Street. As officers approached, the driver suddenly backed up truck towards them.

The officers shot at the vehicle, hitting two of the tires. However, the man was still able to drive away. 

The truck was finally stopped in the area of 144th Avenue and 140th Street with the help of the canine unit and AIR-1. No one was injured during the incident. 

The man is charged with assault with a weapon, dangerous driving, criminal flight, posession of stolen property under $5,000 and driving while disqualified. 

A female passenger was arrested on outstanding warrants but later released.
