An Edmonton woman facing a murder charge in the death of her five-year-old daughter will be back in court next May.

Lauren Lafleche, 29, is charged with second-degree murder and assault with a weapon in the Oct. 12, 2015, death of Shalaina Arcand.

Paramedics called police to a home near 116th Avenue and 124th Street after treating the child for head injuries.

The girl was rushed to hospital, but died of her injuries four days later.

After an autopsy, the medical examiner concluded the girl died as a result of trauma to her head.

Lafleche is also charged with failing to provide the necessaries of life.

  • An earlier version of this story posted Oct. 18 incorrectly said there was a stay of proceedings on the charges against Lauren Lafleche. The information Alberta Justice provided to CBC News was incomplete. That information stated that the charges on the original docket had been stayed, but failed to indicate a new docket had been created containing the same charges.
