Edmonton house fire leaves 12 homeless
A house fire in the north Edmonton neighbourhood of Balwin has left 12 people homeless.
At 5:30 p.m. Thursday, a family of seven living in the house smelled smoke and evacuated the single-storey home at 126th Avenue and 70th Street.
Fire crews were able to quickly get the fire under control, but the bedroom, where the fire started, was extensively damaged by flames.
The rest of the house sustained smoke and water damage, estimated at at $160,000.
A total of 12 people, two cats and a snake were displaced by the fire, said Edmonton Fire and Rescue.
The cause of the fire is not known.
