The City of Edmonton is not putting away enough money to keep up with the rising cost of maintaining it's cemeteries, according to a city report.
The Perpetual Care Trust Fund is supposed to cover the cost of maintaining the city's seven cemeteries, from preservation of grave markers and monuments to upkeep of the grounds.
The report estimates $19.5 million is needed to cover the annual maintenance, but the fund contains only $5 million.
The report recommends the city increase lot prices.
City council's community services committee will vote on the recommendation Tuesday.
