Edmonton accountant moonlights as pro ski wax technician
During the day, Patrick Moore works as an accountant in Edmonton but at night and on the weekends, he lives life in the fast lane — as a professional cross-country ski wax technician.
Moore works out of Edmonton's Fast Trax Run and Ski Shop, where he is waxing this weekend for participants in Canada's 25th annual Birkebeiner cross-country race.
But Moore also travels around the world to work with some of the best.
The ski support gig has taken him to Norway, Turkey, Germany, and Italy where, last month, he waxed for the American national team at the Tour de Ski.
Moore says the right wax job can make a great deal of difference.
"At the World Cup, the right wax and skis can mean the difference between being in first place and sixty-first place," he said.
Next year, he hopes to be going with the best to Sochi for the Olympics.
